Entry Points and Admissions Process

The main entry points for joining Newland House School are Nursery and Reception. Places may be available in other year groups for mid-year entry.

The school has three forms all the way through from Early Years to Year 6, with up to 20 children typically in each class.

All children in the Nursery automatically transition into Reception and all children in Year 2 in the Pre-Prep automatically transfer to Year 3 in the Prep School.

We want our admissions process to be as smooth as possible and we are here to support you and your family on your admissions journey. The steps below explain the process to joining Newland House and our Admissions Team is here to help every step of the way.

1. Visit us

To really get a feel for all that we offer, to meet staff and pupils and see our facilities, we encourage you to come and visit us.

2. Register to join our School

After visiting us, registration is the next step of the admissions process. Entry into our Nursery or Reception is non-selective and you can register your child at any time after they are born. Children joining in any other Year Group must register before a taster session is organised and an offer made.

3. A taster of school life

Once your child is registered to join our Nursery or Reception, and before an offer is made, we will invite you to come along to an offer holders play session with our lovely Early Years team. Children joining at any other point will be invited to join us for a taster morning or day at school and an informal (joining Pre-Prep) or more formal (joining Prep) assessment.

4. Offer of a place

Formal offers to our Nursery or Reception will be made on a first come, first served basis to those children who are registered, 18 months before the starting date. Occasional places are offered on an ad hoc basis when places become available, therefore offers are made shortly after your child has joined us for a taster day.

5. Accepting a place

Places are accepted on completion of an Offer Acceptance form and payment of a £1,000 deposit. This is held throughout your child’s time at the school and is refunded, less the cost of any outstanding charges, at the end of their final term, provided that one clear term’s notice is given prior to leaving.

6. Preparing to join Newland House

Nursery and Reception children will be invited to join our induction welcome programme in the Summer term before they start school. This is a gentle way for them to become more familiar with the school and staff. It also gives both children and parents the opportunity to meet other families who will be in their class. Mid-year joiners will be invited to spend a day in the class they will be joining before their initial start date. Our Wellbeing Coordinator will meet with your child to chat about any support we can provide during their school transition.

Note: The deposit is not refundable if your child does not take up a place at the School. To withdraw the acceptance of a place after having paid a deposit and before your child starts at the School, one clear term’s written notice must be given prior to the term in which they were due to start. Failure to provide sufficient notice will result in a term’s fees being owed to the School. Parent must read and agree to the Offer Terms & Conditions for Parents.

Special Educational Needs or Disabilities

If you have a child with any special educational needs or disabilities, we ask you to notify us in advance of registration.

We will do all we reasonably can to ensure that your child can, with reasonable adjustments, access the curriculum, whether in the classroom or through other means. We may request a full report from a doctor or educational psychologist to help determine whether we can properly fulfil our legal and moral responsibilities to your child and our contractual duties to you.

CHILDREN WITH ENGLISH as an additional language (EAL)

We warmly welcome children for whom English is an Additional Language (EAL). On joining, your child will meet with our EAL Specialist who will assess the support needed for them to fully engage with and benefit from our curriculum. Once children are assessed as being in the early stages of learning English we offer support in a small-group sessions.

Our goal is to work closely with you to help your child thrive, ensuring they grow academically, socially, and emotionally alongside their peers. We are committed to providing a nurturing environment where your child can flourish, becoming a confident, well-rounded individual.

Please note that as part of our approach, there may be occasions where we ask for additional support from home or external professionals to further assist your child’s English language development.
