NEXT STEPS…

We are proudly independent of any particular school, but we have built great relationships with the senior schools that your child will go on to. We understand the different admissions processes and we also know the character of the schools and the children they may suit.

The Autumn Term, particularly for children in Year 6, is an important one because this is when the majority of the assessments, as well as a number of interviews, take place.

Although the culmination of the senior school transfer process is in Year 6, preparations start far earlier. Our English and Maths curriculum throughout the school is planned to ensure that key topics and skills are learnt and understood. For the older Prep children, this includes teaching them about exam technique. Reasoning lessons start in Year 5, because this forms part of the assessment in the majority of senior schools.

See our Year Group Overview for more information about preparation for the entrance exams.

Alongside the academic journey, making sure that the children are well looked after is vital. Form teachers know children really well and through assemblies and PSHE lessons, topics like resilience and developing a growth mindset help children to find a sense of balance. Individual support is always there for the children to make sure they continue to thrive as they prepare for the move to their senior school.

For parents, we’re here to help you navigate what can appear to be a complex and sometimes confusing process. From discussing schools for individual children to inviting guest speakers in, our carefully planned support gives you the confidence that your child will successfully reach their goals.
