Early Years Overview
Children in Nursery and Reception are collectively termed as being part of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and are based on the ground floor of our modern and spacious Pre-Prep building in the Early Years Hub.
Learning In the Early Years
We fully embrace the EYFS curriculum, tailoring our planning to the interests and natural curiosity of each individual child. Our approach revolves around nurturing the fundamental building blocks of effective learning:
Within our broad curriculum, we blend discovery through play with carefully structured learning. This includes interactive whole class, small group, and one-to-one teacher-led activities, along with lessons in Music, French and PE, taught by our passionate specialist teachers.
Music lessons, held twice a week, encompass dance, movement, simple percussion, and singing. We also have a weekly singing assembly, and a real highlight is seeing the children shine on stage in one of our many productions for parents. French is introduced in a fun way from Nursery, and in PE lessons, taught twice a week, the focus is on physical literacy, strength and skills.
All children visit the wonderful school library, and the younger pupils enjoy taking part in cookery lessons. Each week, the woodlands become our classroom for an afternoon during our very popular Forest School session. Here, children explore, investigate, take risks, develop key skills, and apply what they know to new situations and problem-solving in a planned environment.
We talk about feelings and support positive behaviour choices with the children through stories and role play. Our Early Years Hub is a kind, caring and respectful space, in which we want everyone to feel safe and confident.

In Partnership with you
We are on hand every day at pick up and drop off if you want to speak with us informally about your child. We also host individual teacher meetings and group curriculum evenings, and there is a written report at the end of each year.
In our regular newsletter, you will learn more about what we have been up to and what the week ahead will bring.
Parent visits are always welcomed! There is a weekly parent reading session and we enjoy visits by family members who like to talk to us about particular festivals they celebrate or experiences that they have had which link to our many topics.
