Art
We foster creativity in our Art room, allowing children to experience the pride and satisfaction of bringing their unique visions to life.
Art at Newland House
During weekly Art lessons, pupils delve into the works of successful artists, craftspeople, and designers, and hone their skills across a diverse range of media, including drawing, painting, textiles, and ceramics.
Our meticulously planned, skills-based Art curriculum ensures a progressive development of artistic abilities. You child will learn to use line to describe form and apply tone to achieve 3D effects. They will draw from observation, using various media such as charcoal, graphite sticks, and pastels. In painting, children master the art of mixing secondary and tertiary colours and employ acrylic, watercolour, and gouache, inspired by contemporary artists’ works.
Our curriculum also encompasses modelling techniques using clay, plasticine, and other materials, with finished pieces glazed and fired in our own kiln. Additionally, students work with wire and textiles, broadening their artistic repertoire.
Guided by our specialist Art teacher, the works produced by our pupils consistently reflect an exceptionally high standard. Our students regularly participate in local and national art competitions and exhibitions, showcasing their talents.
The Art room buzzes with activity even during break times, hosting various clubs and Art Scholarship support groups that provide further opportunities for creative expression.
