Learning Enrichment
Newland House is an inclusive school, and we are passionate about ensuring that every child here makes the best possible progress, meets their targets and discovers their own brilliant.
The Learning Enrichment Department is an integral part of our school and works closely together with children and their parents.
As all children progress at different rates, there may be times when a class teacher feels a child would benefit from an intervention group to support their learning and help them overcome any challenges they made be experiencing or catch up in a particular skill.
We celebrate neurodiversity and recognise that everyone experiences the world differently. Sometimes, the class teacher may suggest one-to-one sessions in Numeracy or Literacy with one of our experienced specialist teachers, who are all trained at SpLD Level 5 or above. These sessions support children with specific learning difficulties, including Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Developmental Language Disorder.
We do not see different as a deficit and believe there are no ‘normal’ ways of thinking or learning.
With a deep understanding of neurodiversity, our weekly targeted tuition identifies gaps in knowledge and provides strategies that pupils can implement. This small-step, achievable, memorable, and multisensory approach helps children feel supported and confident as they grow in self-esteem and ensures greater access to the curriculum. (This is offered at an additional cost.)
More able pupils
Through our policy of teaching to the top, we emphasise high expectations and high-quality, challenging teaching for all. This provision is further enriched and extended by targeted interventions and activities for our more able pupils.
The More Able programme aims to stimulate, challenge, and support pupils in their individual passions and talents. We offer both internal and external opportunities to enhance learning experiences. These include History trips focused on World War II, public speaking courses, talks from STEM specialists, and creative writing competitions.
As a member of NACE (National Association for Able Children in Education) and recognised as a MENSA school, we are committed to excellence in education and offering suitable levels of challenge and stretch.
English as an additional Language (EAL)AIMS
Our EAL specialist evaluates children for whom English is a second language and offers tailored weekly sessions based on individual needs.
These sessions are typically conducted in pairs or very small groups, focusing on areas such as vocabulary building, verbal role-play, and reading comprehension to ensure each child’s linguistic and academic progress.
