Responsible Travel
We have made considerable progress over recent years to educate the school community regarding parking within the neighbourhood, idling and use of alternative transport options.
We currently hold STARS Gold Status in respect of our Travel Plan
Our School Travel Plan (STP) sets out how a school intends to increase levels of walking, cycling and use of public transport for the journey to and from school.
It is developed through a partnership involving the school and the Council (in particular Transport and Education). It is based on consultation and engagement with teachers, parents, pupils, governors and other local people.
Stop Idling Pledge
Idling produces up to 150 balloons of exhaust emissions per minute which contain harmful chemicals like cyanide, nitrogen oxides and fine particles (PM2.5) that are known to be able to travel deeply into the respiratory tract effecting lung function, worsening medical conditions such as asthma and heart disease and contributing to over 40,000 deaths per year.
In October 2021, the school signed the Richmond Borough Pledge to stop idling and widely promoted this message to parents and across social media. Help us to improve the quality of air around the school for our pupils, our neighbourhood and Richmond Borough by joining us in signing the pledge and find out more about the damage caused by idling.
