Taster Sessions and Assessments

Entry into our Nursery or Reception is non-selective. Children joining at any other point will be invited to join us for a taster session.

Joining in the Pre-Prep

If your child is hoping to join our current Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, once you have registered them, they will be invited to spend some time with us to enjoy a taster of what the school has to offer.

These taster sessions help us to understand your child’s integration into the class and there is no formal assessment element.

Joining in the Prep

Children hoping to join Year 3 upwards are invited to join us for a whole day to experience life in our school.

As well as observing see how they will fit into the Year Group, we will assess their progress more formally which will include on-line tests in Maths and English. Children will be allocated a buddy who will help show them round and make them feel at home.

In class Observation

Your child will work alongside peers in a classroom environment, enjoying timetabled lessons.

This could include a broad range of subjects from English and Mathematics to Design Technology and Drama. They will have time at break and lunch to make friends and we will observe how they are adapting socially and how they integrate and respond within the class.

Online Assessment

This more formal assessment usually takes place during the afternoon of the Assessment Day and is supported by a member of our teaching staff.

The assessment is online and identifies your child’s abilities in the core subjects of Maths and English. There may also be a standardised reading exercise to ascertain their current reading age.

Chat with the Head

Children seeking places in Year 4 upwards may be invited to have a friendly and informal chat with the Head during the day.

After the taster session, we will be able to let you know whether we are in a position to offer you a place at the school.
