Reception

Our imaginative and multi-sensory delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum in Reception allows for lots of play-based learning, and we very gradually ease the children into more formal learning as the year progresses.

We introduce the children to phonics through the Read Write Inc phonics scheme which teaches them the phonemes (sounds) in English, the graphemes (letters) that represent them, and how to form the letters when they begin to write.

Reading is our passion in Reception and each day your child will choose a book with a colour band that is suited to their own learning journey. As well as being read to during story time, a member of staff will listen to and support your child with their reading. We encourage you to read at home daily too, and together we record progress in a reading diary.

We focus on strengthening foundational knowledge of numbers through repetition and problem solving and favour an interactive and hands-on way of learning.

Your child will bring home many beautiful pieces of artwork to treasure and you will have the opportunity to see them performing on stage with their peers in our annual Nativity production.

I am Head of our Early Years provision and have taught Early Years for over 20 years.  I’m passionate about creating a warm and positive introduction to school life for all our pupils and developing fresh and innovative approaches.

I am excited for your child to start their learning journey with us.
